DIY Lookbook

A couple of years ago, I made a “Lookbook” for my sister in law for Christmas .  A “Lookbook” is “a collection of photos in an album to show outfits from casual to formal that one can look at for daily inspiration and gives ideas on how to style outfits or to show what the latest fashions are.”

If you are like me, you end up wearing the same outfits day in and day out. But imagine having this “Lookbook” in your closet and you just flick through the pages and find a new outfit!  It also helps with clothes and accessory shopping as you can see, from your Lookbook, what you need to complete an outfit.

I can’t remember where I found the idea but most of it was inspired from looking at my sister in law’s Pinterest pages.  She has one called “Closet” and I noticed that she had a lot of pins and thought…”How much easier would it be to get dressed every day if she had a “Lookbook” in her closet?”  So I embarked on making it for Christmas.  I made 2 books…one for “Spring / Summer” and another for “Fall / Winter”.

I am telling you now, this takes a bit of work with saving all the images on the computer, printing them (the longest task) and putting them in the photo album but it is totally worth it.  I will never forget the look on her face when she opened the gift Christmas Day…it was pure happiness and she told me it was the best gift she received that year! She used and probably still uses her “Lookbook” every day!  I actually wanted to make one for myself so now is as good a time as any! Merry Christmas to me this year! 🙂

Any of your girlfriends will definitely appreciate the time and effort to make this one of a kind “Lookbook” just for her!

Making a Lookbook

  • I used 4 x 6 albums, the number of pages depends on how many of their pins you plan on putting in the book
  • 4 x 6 photo paper, either matte or glossy (Both work well)
  • Printer with colored ink

Instructions

Open the Pinterest page where pins of clothing ideas have been saved…usually under Fashion, My Style, Closet, etc

Create a “Lookbook” Folder on your computer…then create separate folders for “Spring” “Summer” “Fall” and “Winter”

On the Pinterest page, open a pin and right click on the first clothes photo and press “Save Image As” then “Save” under the appropriate folder

I saved my photos starting with L1, then L2, L3, and so on.

If one of the photos has numerous outfit ideas, right click on each individual outfit and “open in new tab” then right click and “Save image as”

Save all the photos you plan on using in your “Lookbook”

Load your 4×6 photo paper into the printer.

Go to your first folder, right click on photo for the dropdown box and then click “Print”

Select “4×6 Borderless”.  Click  “Fit to Page” so that all the photos will be consistently the same size. Click “Print”

**NOTE:If you don’t have a printer or don’t want to be bother with the extra time it takes to print every photo, save the images on a memory stick and take it to your local photo developer.  Make sure they use “Fit to Page” so that all the images are the same size !!!

Print all photos and let dry overnight before putting in photo Album.

Create Seasonal (Summer, Spring, Fall, Winter) Tabs for your “Lookbook”

Insert all photos into the “Lookbook”

Create a cute little label for the front of the “Lookbook” if there is an area for a picture

Wrap and present gift to the lucky recipient and wait for their reaction to this one of a kind gift!

Enjoy! 🙂
